FAQ

  • when can we begin working together?

As early as you would like! Many families book me as their birth doula in the first trimester and begin meetings with me in the second trimester. We’ll complete all of our meetings prior to the 37th week of your pregnancy, with the option to meet again before your due date.

In getting to know one another earlier on, we build a foundation for our relationship that can allow for a deeper sense of trust, kinship, & care for what is an immensely intimate experience (birth & postpartum!).

  • what will we review at a consultation?

Consultations act as an ‘interview’ for both parties. As the doula, I get a sense of what your needs are, and can gauge if I’m a good fit. For families, you get an idea of what I can bring to the table, and if it will meet your needs.

Consultations are best held in-person so we can adequately get to know one another in a short period of time. Phone consultations are also an option, and I like to meet in-person shortly thereafter.

  • when does a doula come to a birth?

As a labor & birth doula, I am on-call at the 37th week of your pregnancy until you give birth. With that, I come as soon as you need me (with a few hours notice, depending on the day).

I can attend to you and offer support over the phone, in your home, and (if birthing at the hospital/another location such as a birth center), at the hospital or birth center.

  • How long will you stay postpartum?

I offer 1-2 hours of immediate postpartum care. I stay at your birthing location for this stretch of time and continue to advocate for you, hold space, grab food, and help you get settled.

In the case of a more intense or traumatic birth, I offer to stay an additional 1-2 hours as needed.

  • Which areas do you service?

I am primarily a San Luis Obispo birth doula. I offer postpartum care, as well, when I have the availability. I live in Los Osos, California, and am honored to offer birth doula services to families in neighboring areas (San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Templeton, Five Cities, Santa Maria, & more).

Additionally, I can accommodate birthing families in South Monterey and North Santa Barbara Counties. There may be an additional travel fee depending on your location.
